“when ye make the male and the female

one and the same…

then ye shall enter the Kingdom.”

—Jesus Christ,

Gnostic Gospel of St Thomas, 22

“Every man and woman is both male and female….and in Christ there is neither male nor female. So also the god Śiva unites in himself the male and the female; in the final state Śiva and Śakti are one.”—Father Bede Griffiths,  Return to the Center

EVADAH GNOSIS

SHAKTA-SHAIVA TANTRA

“The soul is beyond male and female as it is beyond Life and Death.

Even as the Lingam and the Yoni are but diverse developments of One Organ,

so also are Life and Death but two phases of One State.

So also the Absolute and the Conditioned are but forms of THAT.”

—Frater Perdurabo, “Venus of Milo”, 3-4

“All appearances and opposites are just the invitation from the Absolute to encounter Itself. Manifestation is the expression of Grace, the all-pervading body of Ārdhanārīśwar, the site of infinite bliss, awareness, being.

Know the Yoga of Śiva-Śakti, where no distinction or separation is marked between all that is and the Supreme.”

Clara Llum, 12th of January, 2009

Shiva as half woman represents the union of God and Goddess, the divine inside and the divine outside. In this form there is no split between the individual and the world, the self and the non-self, the subject and the object, the seer and the scenery.”

—Devdutt Pattanaik, Myth=Mithyā: Decoding Hindu Mythology, Prt. 3 “The Point of Shiva and Shakti”, pp. 205-206

“Oh, how many things She has shown me!  One day She showed me Śiva and Śakti everywhere.  Everywhere I saw the communion of Śiva and Śakti.  Śiva and Śakti existing in all living things—men, animals, trees, plants.  I saw Them in the communion of all male and female elements.”

—The Gospel of Śrī Ramakṛishṇa, ch. 18, 2nd of January, 1884 entry

“Mother is body. Father is spirit. All are in you. You are Śiva-Śakti-Ārdhanārīśvara.”—Śiva Yogaswāmī

The formless Absolute is my Father, and God with form is my Mother.”—Sant Kabir

Pray to God as the Divine Mother when you crave solace,

and when you seek wisdom pray to God as the Divine Father.”

—Paramahaṅsa Yogānanda, Man’s Eternal Quest, “Is God a Father or Mother?”

DIVINE FEMININE & MASCULINE REINTEGRATION

The only happy couple I’ve ever  seen.”—Oscar Wilde commenting on  Villa Borghese Hermaphrodite

“The final goal of Tantrism is to

reunite the two polar principles, Shiva & Shakti, in one’s own body.”—Mircea Eliade, Mephistopholes  and the Androgyne

“The sannyasin balances within

himself both the male and female energies. Complete unto himself, he is whole & independent. Having  attained an equilibrium of iḍā and pingalā, he becomes a knower of the known.”

—Gurudeva, Mahāṛishi Śivāya Subramuniyaswāmī

“In mythic vocabulary, the left side of the body is associated with the rhythm of the material world because it is where the heart is located. Just as the heart beats at regular intervals, the material world goes through rhythmic changes in the form of tides and seasons. The right half then becomes the side of spiritual reality; it is still and silent. The left side represents Prakriti, nature’s constant change. The right side is Purusha, the human potential to stay still.”—Devdutt Pattanaik, 7 Secrets of Shiva, ch. 7

“Here, there are two principles. The manifest and the Unmanifest, both existing together simultaneously. The Lord, the Ultimate, the Absolute, is the unity of these two principles. Thus, the Ultimate Lord is the great paradox which contains all the opposites. The formed, the unformed, the born, the unborn, everything yet nothing, male yet female.”

“If there’s war between the sexes

Then there will be no people left.”

—Joe Jackson, “Real Men”

“Nothing can come into being or endure without the power

of both Shiva and Shakti.

Shakti is nothing but Shiva looked upon in a feminine form.

Shiva is similarly nothing but Shakti in masculine form.

Shiva holds the power of Shakti

and Shakti rests upon the

being of Shiva.”

—David Frawley, Shiva: The Lord of Yoga, Part III.

“Shiva and Shakti”

“On the plane of symbolism, the Soul of things somehow became associated with the manly form, and the manifested Energy (Nature, as we call it) with that of woman and motherhood. In this conception will be noted the deliberate statement that God and Nature are necessary to each other as the complementary manifestations of One, just as we find in the male and female together, Humanity. That is to say, Nature itself is God, as truly as [is] Nature’s Soul.”

—Sister Nivedita, Kali the Mother, “The Vision of Śiva”, p. 26

“Shakti, Shiva’s power, His consort…Emerging from Her repose on Shiva’s lap, from the intimate oneness of ‘non-being’, She stretches and dances in ecstasy in celebration of ‘being’, swells and expands in rapturous joy, blooms and fructifies in felicity and blessedness, and then, suddenly, pulled by the pain of separation from Shiva, rushes back in the sweet embrace of the melting oneness with Shiva…This is when Laya (a stillness before dissolution) happens, followed by Pralaya (dissolution), and then, after touching base as it were, again an emergence of the celebration of being. Another process of Creation.”

—Deepa Kodikal, Ganesha The Ultimate: Friend, Protector, Guide, ch. 6

Taking SEX, DRUGS AND ROCK&ROLL

in the REALigion of Our Archaic Ancestors

UNITY IN DUALITY: SPIRITUALITY IN SEXUALITY

SEX: from the Latin sexus, literally meaning ‘division’, possibly from sec-are, meaning ‘to cut.’ Existence of the ‘sexes’ implies a prior cutting or separation which is only re-paired by sexual communion (communication). This act of copulation (coupling) is the essential yoking bringing about a state of ‘Yoga.’”—Dr. John Mumford (Swāmī Ānandakapila), Ecstasy through Tantra, “Sexual Terminology: Semantics of the Inner Life”, p. 92

“the precise function of Sexual Magick is to re-establish that Divine original unity of paradisic Androgyny withinourselves.”

—Samael Aun Weor,  Secret of the Golden Blossom

“The ritual marriage and connubium was to be understood as a reconstruction of the primal undifferentiated state, both in meditation (psychological aspect) for the refreshment of the soul, and in act (magical aspect) for the fertilization and rennovation of nature: whereby it was also to be recognized that there is a plane or mode of being where the primal state is ever present, though to the mind and eye of day all seems to be otherwise.”—Joseph Campbell, The Masks of God: Occidental Mythology,

The operation of the opening and closing

of the Gate of Origin performs

the Mystical Intercourse of the universe.

This Mystical Intercourse brings forth all things

from the unseen sphere into the realm of the manifest.

The Mystical Intercourse of yin [Yoni] and yang [Linga]

is the root of universal life.

The subtle, gentle movement of the interplay

Between yin and yang never ceases.

Its creativity and usefulness are boundless.”

—Hua-Ching Ni, Hua Hu Ching of Lao Tzu, ch. 39

“Sex has been a problem to many, though a natural function in life. It plays a most important part in the unfoldment of one’s inner nature to the realization of your real Self.”

—Gurudeva (Mahāṛisi Śivāya Subramuniyaswāmī), Merging with Śiva, “Cognizantibility”, Section 2 “The Basic Laws of Transmutation”

ENTHEOGENS: DRUGS OF DIVINITY

Since time immemorial we have used plant substances to help us recognize the higher frequencies of knowledge.”

“We psychedelics must become more familiar with the essence and structure of consciousness, because it is out of consciousness we come and it is to consciousness we return.

Gañjā is jñāna yoga…you are a little bit abstracted from sensory experience. It gives you room to move your psyche about.”

—Gaṇeś Bābā, quoted in Eve Baumohl Neuhaus, The Crazy Wisdom of Ganesh Baba, ch. 10, p. 120

The use of psychedelic substances has been traditional in some Tantra and Yoga schools for several thousand years…Patanjali lists ‘Aushadhi,; or drugs, as one of the legitimate means by which Samadhi is attained.”

—Dr. John Mumford (Swāmī Ānandakapila), Ecstasy through Tantra, pp. 113-114

“Shiva-Aushadishvara is the lord of herbs and consciousness-changing drugs. Hemp (Cannabis) and thorn-apple are his favorites. He is the only god of the entire pantheon who is constantly ‘high’. In many folk-tales (purāṇas) he appears as a ‘lord of fools’ (Bholenāth) who is easy to please, who can’t say no, and who often gets into trouble because of his habit of getting stoned… Shiva the original hippie.”

Wolf-Dieter Storl, Ph.D., Shiva: The Wild God of Power and Ecstasy, ch. 13

It should be known that Shiva is Aushadishvara, the lord of herbs and drugs. Knowingly, he winks his eye at the hippy and the ganja-smoking Rastafarian who, with dreadlocks and easy-going lifestyle, looks like an African version of the Shiva sadhu.”

—Wolf-Dieter Storl, Ph.D., Shiva: The Wild God of Power and Ecstasy, ch. 1, p. 14

Many groups, including the Anand Akhara [Nāga Bābās], consider marijuana and other entheogens the gift of the greatest of gods, Shiva.”—Eve Baumohl Neuhaus, The Crazy Wisdom of Ganesh Baba, ch. 1

“All trees are forms of Shiva and reflect his ascending energy….

Five-pointed flowers like dhatura are especially sacred to Shiva”

David Frawley, Shiva: The Lord of Yoga, Part III.

[These five points represent Lord Śiva’s five ‘heads’, His primordial Powers (Śaktis), to wit, Obfuscation, Creation, Preservation, Devastation, and Revelation.

—RĀJ ṚiSHI]

Shiva’s distance from all things socially appropriate is reinforced by what is offered to him in temple rituals. He is offered flowers and fruit of the poisonous plant dhatura, which is never grown in any house. His favourite drink and smoke is made from the leaves and flowers of Cannabis Indica, a narcotic that is considered illegal by most governments around the world.”

—Devdutt Pattanaik, 7 Secrets of Shiva, ch. 4 “Bholenath’s Secret”

Aghoris always worship Shiva, Who loves intoxicants. This has a dual purpose-effect. Not only does the Aghori please Shiva by offering Him the intoxicant, but the very act of taking the intoxicant helps the Aghori self-identify with Shiva, since permanent intoxication is one facet of Shiva’s personality. Shiva is intoxicated with Samādhi-consciousness. We have to work up to His level gradually.”

—Vimalānanda quoted in Robert E. Svoboda, Aghora: At the Left Hand of God, ch. 6

“Ganjā is the name given to the better quality of the hemp flowers…The holy men and women, the yoginis, may indulge in smoking this herb as much as they want to, for having broken all social bonds of family, religion, or caste, they no longer belong to the world, but entirely to Shiva….Sadhus and sadhvīs (female sādhus)…no longer live in the world of mortals. As they wander from one holy place to the next, they live in ‘dream time’…The chillum accompanies their journey through a ‘mythological’ universe.”

Wolf-Dieter Storl, Ph.D., Shiva: The Wild God of Power and Ecstasy, ch. 13

Smoking gañjā with Ganesh Baba was always about going deeper. We often meditated together when we were very high. Rather than letting us relax into a sleep state, Baba expected us to sit up straight, breathe consciously, and work our brains.”

— Eve Baumohl Neuhaus, The Crazy Wisdom of Ganesh Baba, ch. 10 “ΨΔ

Once a Psychedelic, Always a Psychedelic”, p. 118

Since time immemorial we have used plant substances to help us recognize the higher frequencies of knowledge….We psychedelics must become more familiar with the essence and structure of consciousness, because it is out of consciousness we come and it is to consciousness we return.

10, “ΨΔ: Once a Psychedelic, Always a Psychedelic”,  p. 120

HOLY ROCK & ROLL

When we Aghoris use thrills, intoxicants, and sex we use them to go beyond the body. It is the same way with music…Music is vibration, just like mantra. You can use it to benefit your sādhana. Any music will work, if it has a nice melody and good rhythm…I will even listen to some rock music…Some of our bigoted Indians say, ‘Only Indian music can make your mind more meditative,' but that is all bull. It is true that our Indian rhythms are far more advanced in complexity than are the Western ones, and our tunes are much more intricate, but there is something about Western music which makes it particularly useful for getting into certain frames of mind.”

—Vimalānanda quoted in Robert E. Svoboda, Aghora: At the Left Hand of God, ch. 6

“These fools who will not sing or dance, mad with God’s name, will never attain God.”

EVADAH: BACKFORTH TO EARTH-UR!

“The holistic way of life practiced by the ancient sages incorporated body, mind and spirit as a whole in all activities. Their clothing, diet and dwellings were in accord with nature. They relied on their limbs for transportation. Their education was broad and comprehensive; it did not emphasize one element of their being while neglecting the others. They did not seek out special activities for recreation, their work and their recreation were one and the same. Their forms of exercise developed not only the body, but the mind and spirit as well through the harmonization of their internal energies. Their music functioned as a bridge of communication between mind and spirit and was not just an emotional release. Their leaders were chosen because they were outstanding models of virtue, not for their financial or military capabilities. Philosophy, science and spiritual practice were incoporated as one whole.”—Hua-Ching Ni, Hua Hu Ching of Lao Tzu, ch. 43

“Śiva wears a tiger skin, symbol of nature’s power”

—Gurudeva (Mahāṛishi Śivāya Subramuniyaswāmī), Dancing with Śiva, p. xxxv

“Is it any wonder that a repressed, over-civilized humankind, thorougly out of harmony with its basic nature, is fascinated by a figure such as Tarzan, Lord of the Apes?...In him we meet again the archetype of Shiva as Pashupati, lord of the animals. Wih his mistress, the goddess Parvati, or at times alone, clad only in a tiger skin, unkempt and unburdened by civilization, he roams the wilderness and jungles and hears the stories of all creatures.”

Very Illustrious Sonnet for Our Half-Lord Half-Lady

by RAJ RiSHI The Reverend Soma-Rudra Dās Gaṇu

Of Goddess-God I sing the Body eclectic—

Firm male right half linked with soft female left side,

Our Lord’s and Lady’s idols meld, allied

In synergistic image asymmetric:

Three-eyed Yogī with Empress even-eyed

To consummate original urge orectic

Are fully merged, resolving dialectic

Divides by Love’s Divine Form unified,

Resisting reason’s razor analytic

As single Yang-Yin sign connecting sexes,

Long Liṅga joins lush Yoni at loins’ nexus.

Hail, lunar-solar Self hermaphroditic,

Ashen Śiva sheathed in Śakti’s fiery shine

As the white bull blissfully lies with the red lion.

Hail, Lord and Lady in one body bound—

Feel Śakti spark in Liṅga spine aligned:

Both savage Sage and cultured Queen combined,

Hail, Lord and Lady in one body bound!

Join Śakti’s play in Nature’s cycling round

With Śiva’s peace of Spirit’s static mind:

Her shapely Figure fused with His spacious Ground.
